Chapter 10 - Hiring

KnightRider Jun 02 2014 07:58 PM

Can I hire someone to work my farms?

Yes, in Farm Town you can hire other farmers to work on your farms. There are 2 places you can hire someone.
  • The market place is where you can go to hire a stranger to work on your farms.
    -- OR --
  • You can have a neighbor, friend or buddy come visit your farm and you can hire them from there, they can also be hired from the market place.

You can hire someone to do the following jobs on your farms in Farm Town.
  • Harvest crops, flowers and trees.
  • Chop trees.
  • Plow fields.
  • Fish waters.
  • Work Factories and/or Service Facilities (only neighbors or friends can be hired to work facilities).
  • Hire to help decorate your farms.
  • You can also hire a Super Neighbor (only neighbors can be hired as a Super Neighbor).

For the benefits of hiring a stranger or neighbor Click Here.

There is a time limit on how long a regular hire will last for. The hire will be disabled once 8 hours has passed since you hired them.

How do I get to the market place?

To get to the market place click on the Map icon in the bottom right corner of the toolbar (shown below in the white box).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...g/map icon.PNG

There are two (2) market places in Farm Town, first is the work/hire and the second is sell/trade. You would want to go into the first one that says work and hire (shown below in the black box).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...ork & Hire.jpg

Once you are there Tom (Mayor of Farm Town) asks how he can help you (shown below).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu... message 2.jpg

You can click on the second choice which is "I want to hire farm hands to help me in my farm. I hear I can make more money that way." which is shown in the red box in the above picture. Then you will the following message pop up.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu... message 3.jpg

Then just click on "Okay, thanks for the tip, I'll try that". Then you will see the market place and everyone that is in there.

Some people will have color coded text below their avatar to show what they are in the market place to do and if you want to change your status message, you can click on your avatar and select "Change Status Message", the colors are as follows:

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...ar message.jpg

If you are there to hire someone your text color should be either white (normal) or pink (hire) and you should only send a hire request to the ones that have either a white (normal) or red (work) colored text. The other colors are mainly used for the other market place, The Inn or when playing the Minigames.

Now you are ready to find someone to hire, you can read the post "How do I hire someone to work on my farm(s)?".

NOTES:

You can go to different market places by going to a neighbors farm and then go to the market place from there, that should put you in the market place from their server as long as they are on a different server than you are.

You can only change your status message while you are in either of the market places or while you are in The Inn.

Once you are either at the hire market place or have someone on your farm you want to hire, below will explain how to hire a person(s) to work on your farm(s).

Click on the farmers avatar and a menu will appear (shown below).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...ire - Menu.JPG

For hiring you can choose from a few options.
  • Hire Multiple - Click this option if you would like to hire someone for more than 1 job, for instance you need someone to harvest your crops and to plow your field.
  • Hire to Harvest Trees - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to harvest your trees.
  • Hire to Harvest Flowers - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to harvest your flowers.
  • Hire to Harvest Crops - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to harvest your crops.
  • Hire to Plow - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to plow your fields.
  • Hire to Fish - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to fish your waters.
  • Hire to Chop - Click this option is if you would like to hire someone to chop your trees.
Once you decide what you would like to hire someone to do, another menu will appear depending on which option you clicked.
  • Hire Multiple: If you click on this option the hire multiple menu will appear (shown below) and you can hire someone to do multiple tasks. Just click on each of the jobs that you would like to hire someone to do and then click on the check mark at the bottom to continue with the hiring to the Farm Selection or click on the "X" to cancel the hiring process.

    http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...uel option.PNG
  • Hire Single Job: When you click on any of the single jobs from the hire menu. Like harvesting crops, harvesting trees, harvesting flowers, chop trees, plow or fish you will then be sent to the Farm Selection, this is where you will decide on which farm(s) you want to hire the person to work.

There is also an option in that pop-up to allow the use of your tools, add the check mark if you wish to allow this.
There are also 3 options for allowing use of fuel. Click the drop down arrow to change the option to what you want.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...el options.png

Note: If the farm owner has allowed their fuel, you will be able to work using their fuel, but if they run out, you will need to use your own fuel to continue working with out having to drop to using the x1 and x2 tools.

Farm Selection:
Once you have decided what you want the person to do, you have to decide which farm(s) you want them to work and you will get the Farm Selector pop up (shown below).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...rms 170518.png

You can tell which farm you came from when you go to the market place to hire someone, see the picture above, the green tint around a farm shows which farm you were on last.

The first tab "Select One Farm" is for if you just want to select a single farm only for your employee to work.

The second tab "Select Multiple Farms" is for selecting multiple farms, you can also select a single farm in this tab if you want. To select the farm(s) you want your employee to work just click the box next to the farm name and it will put a check mark in that box. Then when you have finished selecting the farm(s) you want just click on the check mark to continue or you can click on the "X" to cancel the hiring process.

Notes:

From the hire multiple screen and the farm selection screen you can decided if you want your employee(s) to use your tools by checking the box next to the option and/or fuel by clicking the drop down arrow and choosing the option you want as explained earlier.

There are also 2 other options that you can use on the farm selection screen.

  • The first one is the Show User Info button. This shows you a circle on the farm if you already have someone working on it.
  • The second one is the Show Work Info button. When you click on this the window will show for each farm, how many items are ready to work and the size of the farm. This is an example of what you could see when your click Show Work Info >>

    http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...I ALL hire.png

The default is set to show you all work that you have chosen for them to do that is available on all farms. You can change this to show a specific job if you wish, by clicking each of the coloured initials in the legend top left of the window. Clicking All will return the jobs viewed to all work available. When you have chosen the jobs you want them to do, using the 'Show Work Info' the legend buttons at the top right will only consider the work types your are trying to hire for, for example, if you didn't select fish as a work type, if you click the blue F button in the legend, no farm will be colored. Also, clicking the buttons in the legend will not alter the statuses of the farm checkboxes.
    http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...SWI legend.png

The key for this legend is as follows >>
    • FP - Fields to Plow
    • SP - Seeds to be Planted
    • CH - Crops to Harvest
    • FH - Flowers to be Harvested
    • TH - Trees to Harvest
    • TC - Trees to Chop
    • F - Fishing
    • All - All jobs

Show Names will show the names of your farms.
Show User Info will show you which farms you have workers on with a blue circle on the farm.

Hire requests: After the farm selection a hire request will be sent to the person that you want to hire (shown below), it tells the person what you are wanting to hire them to do and they have the option at this time to accept or decline the work offer. In this example Barb is sending out a hire request for multiple jobs (harvest trees and flowers).

Once a hire request has been sent out the person has 30 seconds to accept or deny the request, once the time runs out a denied confirmation will be sent back to the sender, plus a person can only receive one request at a time. Also when sending a hire request, the avatar name label background color for the player you are trying to hire will change to Orange. If the player rejects the request or if the request expires after 30 seconds, the color will change to Yellow, this will provide a hint to avoid sending several hire request to the same players.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu... - Request.jpg

Hire confirmation: Once the person you sent the hire request to either accepts or declines your offer you will get a hire confirmation (shown below). If you have not received this confirmation then they probably haven't accepted or declined the offer yet. The pictures below show the 2 possible confirmations that Barb could receive from Steve, the one on the left accepts the work offer and the one on the right would have declined the work offer.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...n (Accept).jpg http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...n (Denied).jpg

If you receive the confirmation that they accepted the work offer (shown above on the left side) you can do one of two things.
  • You can go to the farm that they will be sent to, which is the first farm that you have hired them to do or if it is a single farm hire then you will be sent to that farm.
  • The other thing you can do is to stay where you are and go to the farm they are working on later.
Notes:

Once you have hired a stranger from the market place and they are on your farm, if you decide that you want to hire them for other jobs you can hire them from your farm and both of you DON'T have to go back to the market place.

When you send a hire request to a farmer at market, their background colour will change to orange. If they do not respond it will then turn to yellow. This will help you know who you have already sent a request to so you don't send to the same person again.

If you send a hire request to a user who has already received one from someone else, your request will not be sent and you will see this message >>

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu... contacted.PNG

In this case you can try another farmer.

What are the benefits of hiring somebody to work at your farm?

There are certain benefits for hiring either neighbors or strangers.

Super Neighbor: This can only be done with neighbors, you can't hire strangers or friends to be a Super Neighbor. For more information on Super Neighbors Click Here

Harvesting crops, trees, flowers and chopping trees:
  • Hiring a neighbour- You will get large boxes per item instead of regular boxes. Large boxes sell for more coins at market.
  • Hiring a Stranger - You will get large boxes per item for hiring, PLUS an extra regular box per item for hiring a stranger. This option has the most benefits as you get more boxes. It does not matter when it comes to facilites which size box is used.

Plowing fields: Hiring a neighbor would give the best benefit for plowing. You will receive 1 XP for each plot that is plowed no matter who does the plowing. Below explains the difference between doing it yourself or hiring neighbors or strangers.
  • Do it yourself - will cost 20 coins per plot to plow.

  • Neighbors/friends - will cost 10 coins per plot to plow.

  • Strangers - will cost 15 coins per plot to plow.

Fishing:
  • Hiring a neighbour- You will get large boxes per item instead of regular boxes. Large boxes sell for more coins at market.
  • Hiring a Stranger - You will get large boxes per item for hiring, PLUS an extra regular box per item for hiring a stranger. This option has the most benefits as you get more boxes. It does not matter when it comes to facilites which size box is used.
  • If you have bait you will receive double the fish caught.

What do I receive for working on someones farm?

When you get hired to work on other peoples farm(s) you will get the following:
  • Crops: When you harvest crops for someone else you will receive 25% of the selling price of the crop that you are harvesting and you will receive 10% of the crop that you are harvesting.

  • Trees, flowers and fishing: When you harvest trees, flowers, chop trees or fish you will get 100% of the selling price instead of 25% like you get for the crops, since the crops you would receive more coins when selling, this was changed to try and balance out what the employee received for trees, flowers and fishing. You will also receive 50% of what you harvest, chop or fish compared to the 10% for the crops.

  • Plowing: When you plow someone else's farm you gain 5 coins and get 1 XP for each plot you plow.

Bonus Chest: When you are hired by a stranger from the market place, you can earn a bonus from the Bonus Chest that will be located in the upper left corner just under where the coins and fuel are located. Your Bonus consists of the same amount of coins and boxes you got doing the job and also you earn XP for harvesting flowers, trees, chopping and fishing. To be able to collect from the Bonus Chest you must complete ALL of the work on that farm that you was hired to do. If you don't see anymore work, but the Bonus Chest is saying there is more work to complete, you can do the following to see if there is something that is hidden. .
  • Reload the current farm. Make sure that it is the current farm only, if you click on a different farm that will end the Bonus Chest on the farm you was working on.
  • The eye icon in the bottom right corner set it to hidden (eye is fully closed) if it is not already set to hidden.
  • For each task you was hired to do, pick up each of the corresponding single tools and see if there is any work that needs to be completed.

As of 16 May 2018 you no longer need to click on the bonus chest to collect your bonus if there is more than one farm you need to work. If you navigate to the next farm the bonus chest will automatically pop up with the either the bonus in it or it will tell you if there is more work to be done in order to collect. IMPORTANT! IF you only have ONE farm to work or you are on the LAST farm to work you must still click the bonus chest BEFORE you leave in order to collect it.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu... next farm.PNG

*** Note: The Bonus Chest works only if you are hired by a stranger in the market place. If you are hired by a friend, neighbor or buddy you will not get a Bonus Chest. ***

Can I hire someone to work my Factories or Service Facilities?

Yes, you can send out a work requests to hire your neighbors or friends, but you can't hire strangers to work your Factories or Service Facilities.

If you want your neighbors/friends to work your Factories and/or Service Facilities you will need to send a work request for both Factories and Service Facilities. Note: You only need to send out one work request for Factories and one work request for Service Facilities.

How to send out a work request: To send out a work request for either Factories or Service Facilities you will need to open up one of your Factories (ie. Winery) or Service Facility (ie. Beach Gear Rental) that is active and click on the "What's Pending" tab for Factories or the "What's In Stock" tab for Service Facilities (both shown below in the red rectangles). Then once that tab open you will see in the upper left corner "Produce Faster" button for Factories or "Get More Clients" for Service Facilities (both shown below in the black rectangles) you would click on either of these buttons to continue.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...d clients).jpg

Confirmation: After you click on the buttons to send out work requests you will get a confirmation screen asking you if you want to continue. It will also tell you what you will receive for each friend that helps you.

You will also have on both confirmations if you would like this request to be posted on the Farm Town Wall Requests. You can add a check mark to the box if you want them to show there.

Farm Town Wall Requests is where you can see different requests from your neighbors and friends. To get to the Farm Town wall requests just click on the tab at the top of the game that says "My Requests" and then click on "Farm Town Wall Requests". One suggestion when working with the wall requests if you want to work on a request, then right click on the blue link to the right of what you are wanting to do, then click on open link in new tab. This way once you are done with which ever request you are working all you have to do is to close that tab and you still have the wall requests open in the previous tab.

Below is the pictures of each of the confirmations that will pop up, on the left is for Factories and on the right is for Service Facilities. You have 2 choices on these confirmations. 1) You can click on the check mark and continue to the hire request or 2) You can click on the "X" and cancel the hire request.

Hire request: After you click on the check mark then the hire request will appear that will be sent to your Facebook page. You can if you wish type in something about the request. If you want to select certain friends to send the facility requests to, click on the audience selector to the left of the "Cancel" button. In this image it show it is set to "Public":

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...inery post.PNG

Once you have the hire request the way you want it to be posted click on "Post to Facebook" and your post will only be seen by the friends you chose.

Please note: the "Post to Facebook" button changes every now and then you may have "Share" or "Submit" instead of "Post to Facebook"

The only facilites that you can not post from are the Funeral Facilities, Religious Facilites and non workable facilities.
The Funeral and Religious Facilites are :
  • Funeral Services
  • Funeral Home
  • Buddhist Supplies Factory
  • Buddha Shop
  • Fortune Teller Supplies Factory
  • Fortune Teller Wagon
The non workable facilities are listed here :
http://r1.slashkey.com/forum/showthr...66#post5078766
What you earn for Working Facilities:
  • For regular facilites you and your friend will earn 3XP per product worked
  • For Service facilities you your friend will earn 1XP per product your worked
  • The mayor will also compensate your friends with 20% of farm products as a way of saying thank you - These products do not come from your facilities or your storage so it's a free way of saying thanks!

Your friends can come to your farm to work in your facilities once a day. The exception to this rule is explained below.

Reworking Neighbors Facilities: This is to explain the time between working a friends facilities before you can rework that same friend's post again. To simplify the answer it was originally stated that you had to wait a day.

Notice that if you spend at least 8 straight hours in a day without playing farmtown (when you sleep, eat breakfast, etc, most people will fall in this category) then you will in fact be able to work your friends facilities at least once per day. If you want to work them say twice per day, you will have to work them all say in the morning, 9AM, and then do not work anymore facilities until after 5 PM, after that time you will be able to work them all again. The key point is that you will be able to work ALL your friends facilities after 8 hours has passed since the LAST facilities you worked. Basically what this is saying is that after you have worked a neighbours facility there must be a gap of 8 hours, where you do not work any facilities, before you can work the friends facility again.

There is a countdown timer that resets to 8hours each time you work facilities. You can see this timer in the Show Times (Clock), Gamewide section of the tool box. When you have a green check mark for Rework Facilites and Rework Service Facilties you can then, and only then, go rework the facilites you did prior to the 8hour gap.

How do I hire someone to help decorate?

If you would like to have someone help to decorate your farm, have the person come to your farm. Click on their avatar and a menu will appear (shown below).

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...n together.png

Click on the option "Design this farm together", then you will see the hire conformation screen appear (shown below). Here you can decide if you want the person you are hiring to be able to move your Farm Cash items. If you do not want them to do this put a check mark in the box for "DO NOT allow moving FarmCash Items" and they will not be able to move them.

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...ther popup.PNG

Click on the green check mark to continue with the hiring OR click on the "X" to cancel the hiring of the person.

A message will be sent to them >>

If you have allowed them to move any item they will see this

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...ll message.png

If you have NOT allowed them to move Farm Cash Items they will see this

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...without FC.PNG

When they have accepted to help you by clicking "OK I'll get started" you will see the following message

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...lets do it.PNG

Your friend will then be able to move your items for you that are on your farm. They will also have acess to the Yellow edit hand and also the Freestyle Farm Designers IF you own them and have placed them into storage. They will be in the Toolbox.

To cancel the request to design, you can either leave the farm or click on thier avatar and choose "Cancel Design Farm Together"

http://r1.slashkey.com/images/gamegu...n together.png

NOTE: When you hire someone to help design your farm, you MUST remain on that farm at all times, otherwise as soon as you leave the person hired will no longer be able to move any items around. Plus, if you remain still for more than 10 minutes, it will also stop the person hired from decorating your farm, to prevent this you should do something on your farm every few minutes. If the above happens, then the person will have to be re-hired to decorate.
