When you buy a new animal shed or move one to a farm that doesn't have one, the game will state that it is ready to harvest, but it isn't ready yet.

After placing it and putting animals into it you have to wait the normal harvest time of the animal shed before you can harvest the animals in it.
For a regular chicken coup that would be one Farm Town day, 20 hours.
