Default How do I add animals to my farm?

There are several ways to obtain animals:
  • The animals in the store become available to buy as you reach higher levels in the game.
If you would like to see the list of what level each animal unlocks at click on this link to be taken to that post in the Game Guide: What Level do I Unlock Animals?

  • Some animals can be purchased from the store.
Some are working animals and provide products for facilities when the related animals shed is owned, has animals in it, and it's harvested.

Some animals are only decorative animals and do not provide products. Make sure that you are buying the correct ones for what you want!

  • Some animals can not be bought.
They can be sent to you by other farmers as gifts.
You can also exchange your gifts for them before you accept them.

  • Some animals you can get from working trains. You could purchase a locomotive train and the Long Cattle Car, dispatch it and when it has retuned from it's trip and you unload it, the animals will be sent to your item storage for you to use.

Boosting a farmers train that is sent to you that has the Long cattle car on it will also get you some Cows, Goats, Hens, Turkeys and Horses and the animals will be sent to your Item storage.

In Item storage, if you are on one of your farms that has an animal shed not at full capacity, you can send them straight to the animals shed by clicking on Move.

You can also click on Use to put some of them on the farm, but we recommend that you don't put to many out on farms as too many animals not in their animals buildings can slow the loading down for that farm or even prevent the farm from loading.

A much faster way to buy and store harvestable animals bought from the store (like sheep, llamas, ostriches, peacocks is to own the Herding Robot.
The Herding Root can also send animals to animal sheds in bulk.
To see all the information on this tool CLICK HERE
.

Animals placed on the farm can not be sent to Item storage until you own more than one farm!

Animals that you want to place on farms, perhaps for decoration, like to be placed on a totally clear spot on your farm.
Remember to show everything on your farm so you can see where there is clear space and nothing too close to that spot.
If you try to place an animal on a spot where something else is you will see the generic warning message appear near the top of your game screen:

If you place them too close to something or on top of something, they can wander onto something like crops and can get stuck there and then you may not be able to move them to a nee spot or store them.

If you click on a spot that is already occupied by something else the animal can show up in a different place on your farm. This is likely to happen on farms with a considerable amount on them.

Never buy too many animals at one time when you are buying them one by one and placing them on the farm before you store them or add them to their animals sheds especially if you have a slower or older computer.

Animated animals can be a big drain on resources, particularly on a computer that does not have much RAM memory. If you buy too many at once you could end up not being able to load that farm. Test buying a small amount then gradually increase it if you have no problems with that.

As you buy more and more animals, pay attention to the save counter top right of your game screen! If you see a red number on the save Icon top right of the game screen and it's climbing high as the number counts back down, stop buying and placing them. You MUST allow that number to count down and clear before you reload or refresh the farm or you could lose what you have bought.

These are examples of what you could see on the save icon, the higher the number the longer the it will take to save what you have done. When you are over 99 saves you will see plus icons on the save icon!:

You will be warned once that you have a lot of animals on your farm, if you click too fast you could close that popup before you've had a chance to read it. That pop up warns you that too many animals on a farm can cause your game to run slow. This is an example of the warning popup:

There will be ONE other warning when you reach the maximum animals allowed per farm that are not stored in animal buildings. Depending on your computer, you may not be able to load a farm with the maximum amount of animals on it, so if you are not sure do not try to buy all the animals that will fit in an animal shed at once, try buying only 50 animals and see how long it takes your computer to save those and then how long for you to store or send those animals to their animals sheds before you continue with any more. This is an example of the warning popup up:
At this point you will not be able to put more animals on that farm. If that farm is loading slow, you will have to place animals either into sheds on that farm or place them into Item storage to go into other animal shed where there is room for them or sell them to reduce the amounts on that farm.

If you do not own the Herding Robot (sends them to sheds in bulk) or the Tower Crane (sends them to item storage in bulk) and you want to store animals that are out on farms, you will have to store them one by one with either the Add to Animal Building Tool or the Add to Item Storage tool. You can also click on an animal and then click on one of the options showing to store them one by one.

Default My animals are walking in my farm! They eat my crops!?

Some animals are animated and will look like they are eating your crops, don't worry they don't!

If you prefer that they do not wander around the farm and would like to keep them within something like fences when decorating your farm. You can add a check mark to a setting in your preferences to stop them from moving around by themselves. This applies to all of your farms, it does not apply to a specific farm. Change the setting refresh the farm then move the animals to where you would like them to be within your fences.

To freeze your animals click on the preferences icon top right of your game screen and add a check mark to Freeze Animals, then click on the green check mark at the bottom of the window to save your changes.

Default What are the options that appear when I click on an animal?

There are various options in the menu that shows that allow you to do various things with animals when you click on them.

For example you can use the menu to:
Move the animal to another spot on your farm
Move the animal to the appropriate animal shed, like a llama to the wool shed.
Add the animal to your Item Storage

The eat command on a squirrel will make the squirrel will make him sit down and eat a nut. This does not mean they will eat your crops, they are not programmed to do this, so don't worry! There are various other commands on different animals, like wander around, jump, lay down, sleep, hop, sit, wag tail etc..... just a bit of fun to watch. The little yellow chicken when you make it move is a speedy fellow and runs quite fast, try moving it from one side of a clear farm to the other side and watch it run .

When there are a lot of items on your farm, when moving an animal to another spot it will try to find a clear path to that spot. If there isn't one it will teleport to that spot instead, just like your avatar does when that comes across the same problem.

Default How do I sell an animal?

To be able to sell animals you must have earned the Influential Neighbours Trophy. To earn that trophy you have to have 8 neighbours.

To sell just one or a few animals, just click it and select the command "Sell" from the menu that appears.
Please note that the selling price of an animal that you bought in the shop is less than the price at which you purchased.

To sell animals that are in your Item Storage.. .
  • Go to the market.
  • In the pop up click on "I want to sell my harvests or gifts",
  • then click "OK show me your prices".
  • Your Storage will open,
  • then click the Items tab, change the filter top right to "Animals" then click on "Sell" or "Sell Half" in the box next to each of the animals.
Should you have a considerable amount of animals on your farm and you want to send them to animal buildings in bulk, mass delete them or send them to Item storage in bulk rather than doing it one by one there are several tools to help you with that. These cost Farm Cash. The Excavator and Tower crane also work on other items so please be careful when using them. For details on the tools click on the item you want to see details for and it will take you to that post in the Game Guide:
Herding Robot
Tower Crane
Excavator

Default How do I take care of my animals?

To care for your animals you need one of these buildings:

You can have one of each type of animal shed per farm.
  • one chicken coop,
  • one wool shed
  • one dairy shed,
  • one pigsty,
  • one rabbit hutch
  • one stables

Putting a duplicated animal shed on the same farm just acts as decoration. You will be able to see the same animals in both sheds as it mimics what the other one has so that it doesn't matter which one you look in to see if the shed is full. However, when you harvest the animals you only get products from the amount of animals in one of them. For example if you had 250 hens and two chicken coops on the same farm, you only get 250 eggs not 500 when you harvest.

The animal shed can be either regular version OR the super version that holds more animals.
For example:
One chicken coop OR one super chicken coop,
One wool shed OR one super wool shed,
One Stables (25 FC) OR one stables 28 FC OR one Super stables (50 FC) and so on.

If you put a second of the same type of animal shed on the same farm it, the duplicate behaves as decoration and mimics the information in the other shed but you only get products from one of them when you harvest.

Chicken Coop (Poultry)
This building allows you to collect the following to use in your facilities or you can sell them at market. You can collect the eggs and feathers daily:
  • Eggs from Hens and Geese (Hens, and Geese are on the gift page)
  • Feathers from Turkeys (Turkeys are on the gift page)
  • Feathers from Peacocks and Ostrich (Animals section of the store)

Super Chicken Coop (Poultry)
Same as above but you can collect twice a day.
Notes:
The Hen (gift page) and the Leghorn Hen (Animals section of the store) produce hen eggs NOT the yellow chicken.

The Ostrich from the Animal section of the store produces feathers not the decorative ones from the Farm Decor section.

The Turkey from the Animal section of the store produces feathers not any decorative or seasonal turkeys.

The Peacock from the Animal section of the store produces feathers not any decorative peacocks we may get.

Wool Shed
This building allows you to collect the wool from Sheep and Llamas (Animals section of the store), to use in your facilities or you can sell at market. You can harvest once every two days.

Super Wool Shed
Same as above but you can collect once a day.
Note:
The Llama and Heavywool Llama (Animals section of the store) produce llama wool NOT any of the Llamas from the Farm Decor section of the store.
The Sheep and the Heavywool Sheep (Animals section of the store) produce sheeps wool. The Lamb does not produce sheep wool. The Sheep in the farm decor section of the store does NOT produce sheep wool.

Dairy Shed (Dairy)
This building allows you to collect the milk of Cows and Goats (Cow and Goats are on the gift page), to use in your facilities or you can sell them at the market. You can collect them once every eight hours.

Super Dairy Shed (Dairy)
Same as above. The only difference is they hold twice as much.
Note: The Cow (gift page) and the Holstein Cow (Animals section of the store) produce cow milk NOT any of the Cows in the Farm Decor section.

Pigsty
This building allows you to collect the manure from Pigs (Pigs are on the gift page) to fertilise your farms. You can collect once every 12 hours. Note: you can NOT harvest pigs until you own a manure spreader as the manure harvested from pigs gets stored with the manure spreader. Manure can not be sold.
The only Pig that produces manure is the one from the gift page NOT any of the ones in the Farm Decor section of the store.

Rabbit Hutch
This building allows you to collect White Rabbit Fleece from your White Rabbits (Animals section of the store). You can collect once every 2 days.

Super Rabbit Hutch
Same as above except collection is once daily
Note: The White Rabbit produces rabbit fleece not the Bunny or the Bunny Decor.

OR Horse stable
This building allows you to collect horse hairs from Both the Horse and Clydesdale (both horses are on the gift page). You can collect once every 2 days.

Super Horse stable
Same as above collection time is every 8 hours.
These are the horses that will produce Horse Hair when harvested

The Arabian horse and other horses from the Farm Decor section of the Store can NOT be harvested.

Each regular animal building will hold 250 of each type of applicable animal. The super animal buildings will hold 500 of each type of applicable animal.

The buildings show the amount of time left until your next collection when you hover over them with your mouse.

Farm Cash animals produce 30 times more than the regular animal.
If you have a Farm Cash animal in a super animal building it will produce 60 times more.

The Super Animals are:
  • Leghorn Hen
  • Holstein Cow
  • Longwool Sheep
  • Heavywool Llama

Warning: depending on the capabilities of your computer, too many animals on your farm, that are not in animal sheds, can slow your game, cause a farm to be hard to open, or even crash your browser.

IMPORTANT: If you own the Animal Harvesters and have made a farm a Quest Farm, the animals on that farm will not be harvested when you use the Harvest All at the top of the Facility Manager.

Default Can I place the animals in buildings?

Q: Can I place the animals in buildings?
A: Yes, animals can go into buildings. There are several ways to do this....

One by one........
  • Click on the animals and the menu now includes adding to building.

  • You will get a confirmation pop up to add the animal to the building.

Moving multiple Animals from farm to their buildings....
Click on the "Add to Animal to Building" Tool located in the Yellow Toolbox, then click the animals you want to store. Click on the green man to stop using the tool. There must be enough room in the animal building to house the animals. Maximum of 250 of each type for regular sheds, 500 of each type for super sheds.

To move animals in bulk from the farm to their buildings you can purchase the Herding Robot.

Animals received as gifts can be stored into their buildings straight from the gift box as long as there is enough room in the building of the farm you are on. Just click "Store".

Moving multiple Animals from Item Storage to their buildings....
You need to have enough space in the animal sheds on your farm to put them in.
  • Go to a farm that has animal sheds with space for animals.
  • Open your Item storage to "Animals"
  • Hover over the box with the animal in it that you want to store into the shed and you will see "Move".
  • Click "Move" and the animals will go into the appropriate shed. IF you have a lot of animals, it will store as many animals as you have room for in the shed.

There are 2 ways to see how many animals are in a building:

Method 1. When you don't have many animal buildings...
Click on the building and select "Show Animals Inside".

Then you can see the amount of animals.

Method 2. When you have many animal buildings on many farms...
You can tell at a glance how many animals are in an animal building by using the Facility Manager in your Tool Box. Open the Facility manager and click on the Funnel Icon and make sure you have the following selected. When you have made the changes to the Facility Filter click the green check mark to save.

Each animal shed will show you how many animals are in it. To save space the Farm Cash Animals are shortened to HT Cow (Holstein Cow), LH Hen (Leghorn Hen), HW Llama (Heavywool Llama) and LW Sheep (Longwool Sheep).

The following example shows a Super Chicken Coop on Farm 6, ready to harvest in 10.2 hours with 250 Hen, 100 Leghorn Hen, 250 Turkey, 250 Goose and 200 Peacocks.

If the animal shed is ready to harvest, instead of the time under the building you will see Ready to Harvest in green.

Which buildings do the animals go in?
  • Cows and Goats go in the Dairy shed.
  • Calf's also be put in the Dairy shed but currently have no use in facilities.
  • Sheep and llamas go in the Wool Shed.
  • Hens, Geese, Turkeys, Peacocks and Ostrich go in the Chicken Coop (costs 40,000 coins).
  • Roosters, Chickens (yellow) and Ducks can also be put in the Chicken Coop but currently have no use in facilities.
  • Pigs go in the Pigsty.
  • Horses, both Clydesdale and the brown Horse, go in the Stables.
  • Camels and Donkeys can also be put in the Stables but currently have no use in facilities.
  • Brown Dogs and Border Collies can be put in the Dog House but currently have no use in facilities.
  • Cats can be put in the Cat House but currently have no use in facilities.

The limit of each type of animal in each building is 250. So you can have 250 cows and 250 goats in the dairy shed.

The Super sheds will hold 500 of each animal.

Default Can animals go in the appropriate building if it's on another farm?

Yes.

If you have more than one farm, you can put the animal into storage and then take it out on the farm you wish. You can also buy or accept them as gifts and place them on the relevant farm.

You can send animals straight from your gift box to the animal shed on your farm as long as there is room in the building for it. Just open the gift box and click "Store" in the box with the animal in it.

If you have more than one type of working animal in your gift box and you have room in all the animal buildings on your farm you can store them all at once. Top right of the gift box you will see “Store Ingredients” just to the right of that is a small drop down arrow. Change it to "Store Animals", then click "Store Animals" again and all animals will be sent to their buildings.

As long as there is the appropriate animal shed on the farm and there is room in the animal shed you can add animals straight from your storage to the building. Go to the animal section of your Item storage, find the animal you wish to store then click "Move"

Default Can my employees take care of my animals?

No, you're the only one who can do this.

An easy way to Harvest all your animal sheds without having to go to each farm, is to use the Facility Manager. You can set it to just show you animal sheds on all farms and then harvest each one. It is also a quick way to find out how many animals you have in each shed and which farms they are on.

For a faster way to Harvest All animals in All sheds on All farms, with one click, from the Facility Manager, you can buy the Animal Harvesters.
