Default How do I fish?

How do I fish?

To fish and for when you want to place waters on your farm, you will need to make sure that you are showing waters in your preferences. There are both coin bought waters and FarmCash waters so 3 options need to have a check mark in them to be able to see all of the waters:

If you make changes to your preferences window please remember to click on the green check mark at the bottom of the window to save your changes.

You can catch fish using the fishing rod or with one of the fishing boats when you own them from ponds, lakes, rivers or sea coasts on your farm and when hired to fish for other farmers.
The fishing rod can be found by clicking on the Yellow Tool box. Click on the tool to use it then click on a water to start catching fish. When you are done fishing, click the green man to stop using the tool.

To fish waters that could be placed off the edges of a farm, you will need to own at least the smallest sized Turbo Fishing Boat.

How do i know when waters are ready to be fished?
Move your mouse pointer over each water, the tooltip will display the name of the water, how many fish, how much bait you have for that type of water. If the waters have been recently fished, it will also display how long until they are ready again. If there is no time displayed, they are ready to fish.

In this example, the Big Lake with Boat is ready to fish, it has 199 fish, and there is 400 freshwater bait...

In this example, there are 0 fish, so the lake has already been fished, and will be ready again in 7.9 hours. It also shows there are no freshwater bait available for fishing.

How to get bait and what it is for is explained in a later post in this thread Using bait.
You do NOT have to have bait in order to fish your waters, you will still get fish without it.

Note: Waters that have just been bought or placed from Item storage will take some time before they are ready to be fished.
  • Coin waters will be ready 20 hours after placing them.
  • Farm Cash waters will be ready 8 hours after placing them.

For information on all the Fishing boats so you can fish much faster, please click on this link to go to the Fishing Boat post in Chapter 21 Tools: What is the fishing boat?

What can I do with the fish?

Once you catch a fish, it goes into your Harvests and Products section of storage. You can then sell the fish at the marketplace. Or you can use the fish in facilities to make dishes.

This image shows you just your fish in storage. Top right of the box you can see it is set to Fish. The drop down arrow, when you click it, lets you filter your storage to
All
Crops
From Trees
Logs
Tree Fruits
Flowers
Fish
Animal Products
From Facilities
From Facilities (Export)
Ingredients from Facilities
Non- Ingredients
Non-Ingredients (for me)
The Search Icon will let you search your storage for a particular item.

The A-Z Filter will let you sort your Storage by
Alphabetically
Stored Amount
Ingredient Importance
Ingredient Importance (for me)
Total Price
This question icon you see top right of each box of fish, when you click it, will show you what you can make with the fish.

Bait is used when fishing to increase the amount of fish you get from waters.

When there is Bait in waters, it will give you and the farm owner 2x the fish. The bait is taken from the farm owners waters. Each fish you catch uses one bait.

You can get freshwater bait (lakes, ponds, rivers) or seawater bait (for sea coasts). Bait is available by gifting, producing in the Fish Farming Plant or by working a neighbours Fishing Tackle shop which has bait stocked.

Storing Bait:

Gifted bait, bait from your fish farming plant and any bonuses you get from posting your own bait bonus gets stored with waters.
The exception to this rule is any bait you send to a friend when you click on their bonus post, your share goes to storage, which you can use to stock the Fishing Tackle shop if you own one or just sell at market.

This is what bait looks like in your gift box when you accept some bait as gifts. When you store it from your gift box, it gets sent to your waters. You must have at least one lake, pond or river on your farm to store freshwater bait. You must have at least one sea coast on your farm to store seawater bait.

The water will tell you how much bait is left, if you hover over it with your mouse. It will also show you the name of the water, how many fish are in it if it's ready to fish, if it's not ready to fish it will tell you how long until they are ready to be fished. For Freshwater bait hover your mouse over a lake, pond or river. For Seawater bait hover your mouse over a sea coast.
