I have spent thousands of dollars and invested a lot of time into Farmtown. I hate to see that all too go to waste. But unless there is an alternate way to access my farms, I may be walking away and not looking back, much to the delight of my wife, who pointed it how much I have spent both in time and money on a game.

You need Facebook to get your interaction between friends and neighbours that are needed for the game. There is no way currently to play without it. There is Facebooks Gameroom, where you can play the game with less interaction with Facebook. It isn't fully supported, yet but that is planned for the future. It might be worth you giving that a try. Load your game from Facebook and you should see in the right pane the option to download Gameroom. That will put an icon on your desktop which you then use to get to your Facebook games like Farm Town.
