Default How do I hire someone to work on my farm(s)?

Hiring other Farmers to work your Farms:

This is mostly done from the Job Marketplace as that is where most farmers will go when looking for work.

Although you can hire farmers from other areas of the game, there are additional benefits for hiring strangers from the marketplace which will be explained in a later post.

The Trade Marketplace is intended for those only wanted to trade from the Marketplace and don't want to be hired while doing that.

Below will explain a few methods on how to hire a farmer(s) to work on your farm(s):

OPTION 1: If the farmer is chatting in the Chat window and they are still present, you can click on their message in the chat window to get to their avatar menu. Example of what you could see at the job marketplace:

The different coloured names just help you identify which farmer is speaking as there can be more than one farmer with the same avatar name.

OPTION 2: Click on the farmers avatar.
If the farmer is a Neighbour or a Buddy that information will show up below their Avatar name and level:

Farmers that want work can change their avatar name background to red
at the Job Marketplace, if they wish, which helps you to know which farmers want work.

Whichever method you use to hire a farmer
(clicking on their avatar name in the chat window or clicking on their avatar)

You will then see the Avatar menu which looks like this:

For hiring you can choose from a few options.
  • Hire Multiple - allows you to hire someone for more than 1 job, for example if you need someone to harvest your crops and to plow your fields as well.
  • Hire to Harvest Trees - only hires them to harvest your trees.
  • Hire to Harvest Flowers - only hires them to harvest your flowers.
  • Hire to Harvest Crops - only hires them to harvest your crops.
  • Hire to Plow - only hires them to plow your fields.
  • Hire to Fish - only hires them to fish your waters.
  • Hire to Chop - only hires them to chop your trees.

When you click on a hire option, another menu will appear depending on which option you clicked.
The little grey ticket to the right of some of the options in the picture are to do with the Farm Pass Feature.
You may see grey or yellow ones.
  • Hire Multiple: If you click on this option the hire multiple menu will appear (shown below) and you can hire someone to do multiple tasks. Add a check mark in the box for each job that you want to hire them for.

Remember to set your preferences for whether or not you will allow the hired farmer to use your Tools and or Fuel. The options are in the pop up window:

Use of your tools (Let Employee use my tools) - the default setting is to allow the use of them. Remove the check mark if you do not want your tools to be used and it will remain deselected for that session ONLY. If you reload the game the check mark will be added again.

Use of your Fuel - Click the drop down arrow to view the options then click on the option you want.

Note: If you do not allow the use of your fuel and the worker has none or runs out of their own to use they will not be able to complete the jobs you hired them for using the bigger tools. The only tools that do not require Fuel are the x1 and x2 tools.

Click on the big green check mark at the bottom to continue with the hiring and you will then see the Select Your Farms window. To cancel the request if you change your mind, or made a mistake, click on the red "X" to cancel the hiring process.

Note: When you click on any of the single jobs from the hire menu. Like harvesting crops, harvesting trees, harvesting flowers, chop trees, plow or fish you will then see the Farm Selection window, this is where you will decide on which farm(s) you want to hire the person to work.

Farm Selection: Once you have decided what you want the person to do, you have to decide which farm(s) you want them to work and you will see the Select Your Farms window (shown below):

You can tell which farm you came from when you go to the market place to hire someone, see the picture above, the green tint around a farm shows which farm you were on last.

Any farms greyed out are your private farms. You can not hire anyone to work a private farm. In the example above the farm called Quest is greyed out.

At the bottom left of the Farm Selection screen is another place you can set your preferences for the use of your tools and fuel.

Add a check mark to the box for each farm you want the hired worker to work. Click the green check mark to send the request.

If you are not sure which of your farms have work on rather than hiring them for all farms which can waste their time making them visit every farm when there is no work on them, there are 2 more options that you can use on the farm selection screen:

Show Work Info button. When you click on this the window will show for each farm, how many items are ready to work and the size of the farm. This is an example of what you could see when your click Show Work Info:

  • The default is set to show you all work that you have chosen for them to do that is available on all farms. You can change this to show a specific job if you wish, by clicking each of the coloured initials in the legend top left of the window. Clicking All will return the jobs viewed to all work available.

This is very useful if you can not remember which farms have work on. The legend buttons at the top right will only consider the work types your are trying to hire for, for example, if you didn't select fish as a work type, if you click the blue F button in the legend, no farm will be colored. Also, clicking the buttons in the legend will not alter the status of the farm checkboxes.

The key for this legend is as follows:

    FP - Fields to Plow
SP - Seeds to be Planted
    CH - Crops to Harvest
FH - Flowers to be Harvested
    TH - Trees to Harvest
    TC - Trees to Chop
    F - Fishing
    All - All jobs

When you have used the Show Work Info screen, if you want to go back to showing the Farm Names you just click on Show Names and it will change to show the names of your farms.

Show User Info can be used to see if anyone is working on one of your farms. It shows a circle on the farm if you already have someone working on it. You may want to use this if you already hired someone to work for you, you are not sure which farm they are on, and want to hire the next farmer for different farms.

After you have sent the Hire Request:
The farmer you hired receives the hire offer, it tells them how many farms you have hired them for, which jobs and if you have allowed your tools and fuel. Only one hire offer can be viewed at a time.

They then have 30 seconds to accept or decline the offer. The avatar name label background color for the farmer you are trying to hire will change to Orange. If the player rejects the request or if the request expires after 30 seconds, the color will change to Yellow and a denied confirmation will be sent back to the sender. The colours help to avoid sending several hire requests to the same farmers and to know which ones you have already asked that did not accept. Examples:

Hire confirmation:

When the farmer you sent the hire request to, either accepts or declines your offer, you will get a hire confirmation (example shown below). If you have not received this confirmation then they have not accepted or declined the offer yet. The pictures below show the 2 possible confirmations that you could receive, the one on the left accepts the work offer and the one on the right would have declined the work offer.
If you receive the confirmation that they accepted the work offer (shown above on the left side) you can do one of two things.
  • You can go to the farm that they will be sent to, which is the first farm that you have hired them to do or if it is a single farm hire then you will be sent to that farm.

  • Or you can stay where you are, for example if you wanted to look for work yourself while your own farms are being done, or if you wanted to go to the trade market for example.

Once you have hired a stranger from the market place and they are on your farm, if you decide that you want to hire them for other jobs you can hire them from your farm without having to go back to the market place.

If when you send the hire request, that farmer has left, you will see a popup informing you that has happened. The request will not be, sent and you can then chose another farmer you can see at the Job Marketplace:

Click the green check mark to close the popup, then choose another farmer to hire.

If while you were choosing which jobs and which farms to work the farmer you chose changed to only wanting to hire others (avatars' name has a pink background) you will see a informing you that has happened.

Click on the No Problem in that message to close it, the request will not be sent, then chose another farmer to hire.

Example of an avatar nameplate with a pink background:

How to know when tools and fuel are allowed by the farmer hiring you and when they are not:

There are several different options for the farm owner allowing or not allowing the use of their tools and fuel.

That information is in the Hire offer sent to you, so you need to read it to know if you're going to be able to use their tools and fuel, and if you are going to be using their fuel first or last. The part about tools and fuel is just below the information about what jobs they would like you to do and the number of farms they are asking you to work.

Here are some examples. When tools or fuel are allowed, it is indicated in the pictures here, with a red arrow so you know where to look:

Example 1: No tools or Fuel is allowed. There is no mention of them in the hire window beneath where it tells you how many farms they want you to work. So you will need to use your own tools and fuel for this job.

Example 2: You can use their tools, but you do not have use of their fuel. You will be using your own fuel so if you do not have much fuel you need to consider if you will be able to complete the work using your own. If you accept the work and run out of fuel, you will need to refuel or you will have to let the farm owner know so they can either allow the use of their fuel or if they can't, hire someone who has some they are willing to use.

Example 3: You can use their tools but you will not be using their fuel unless you run out. You will be using your fuel first until you run out then you will be using the farm owners fuel if they have any.

Example 4: You can use their tools AND you will be using their fuel first. However:
  • If the farm owner runs out of fuel you will then be using your own.
  • This is the only time you can see approximately how much fuel the farm owner has. The area to find that information is indicted with the red box in the pictures below.
  • Pay attention to the amount of Fuel showing in the box!

  • A figure with an M after it indicates Millions.
  • A figure with a B after it indicates Billions which is a far greater quantity.

In this picture the farm owner has allowed the use of their tools and they have round 29 Million Fuel:

In this picture the farm owner has allowed the use of their tools and they have round 4 Billion Fuel:

Important:
  • Even if the farm owner has allowed the use of their tools you will not know before accepting the hire which tools they own unless they have told you.

  • Even if the farm owner allows their fuel to be used first, they may not have enough fuel to complete the work.
If they run out of Fuel, you will be using your own fuel to be able to continue using the bigger tools.
