Try using the "Save" button. I use save and it collects everything I've done within a couple seconds then I can leave the farm I'm working for.

I had the same problem today. Everything harvested kept coming back and I had to hire again. Then it took 5 trips to the market to sell it all. I'm sure they will fix this soon.
