English Please Not American
yes I may be being pedantic, but please can we have English as well as American we do not speak American in the UK for instance we spell Plough Plough not plow as you do and it annoys me that we are not able to speak our language when you have so many other languages available thank you others=wise good fun if alittle addcitive
|
Apparently you don't use punctuation in England either. I guess America invented that, too. Seriously, there are dozens of countries that play this game and the developers are from America, so it stands to reason they would spell things the American way.

Hi there :)
Do you mean the toolbars on the farms? Not sure they adjust for the multitude of 'different' languages and cultures such as 'American' or..ahem..'English'. Here on the Forum however, please feel free to spell(or misspell) anyway you wish .. as long as it isn't profane, noone will mind or(for the most part) criticize. |
I want Australian and New Zealand. If he can have English and Americans can have American I want my languages represented! :D
|
if the devs are american then why british spelling of nieghbours?
|
Navstart has a good point there - plus I thought a "plough" is the actual machinery used to "plow" a field? Therefore we spend our time plowing (seeing as we have no machinery) - not ploughing! If you really want to get pedantic then you really do need to check your capitals and spacing - re-reading your post would be good before actually posting! :p

lol..maybe we could talk them into a compromise..swap neighbors for neighbours and plough for plow..

When all else fails I speak the universal language of pirate!

My Webster says that plough(which is defined there as a verb and a noun btw) and neighbour are the British spellings..personally don't see any reason why we can't interchange them at will.. Swapping 'to' for 'too' and 'their' for 'there' (or 'they're') and 'you're' for 'your' is just plain wrong wherever you live. |

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, plough was spelt plow in English-English until the 17th century, when English took over plough (originally spelt plouch) from the Scots. So the US (North American?) spelling is the original English spelling. :D

do you think French Canadians will be wanting their own French forum as well?
|
all sounds the same to me! <giggle> as far as American goes, we say wash in Colorado "wash"...my friend from Ohio says "warsh" ... should we get to choose accents too? im sure the devs have tons of extra time to work on that

UK v US

UK and USA two countries divided by a common language. While working in the US a guy from Georgia (named after a British King, of course) said to me, "Gee, you speak good American!" Just about the closest I came too clocking a yank. Except for the one who reckoned he heard that Scotland was a nice city!

Let's split the difference and speak Canadian.

I just enjoy the diversity and couldn't care less how things are spelt. :D. Incidentally, I use the plough version of plow when it suits me. I am English and was taught to spell it the 'ough' way, back in school, many donkey's years ago and yes, we were also taught how to use punctuation, believe it or not. Maybe it's a lost art amongst young people nowadays, who can only spell in text language.
My biggest grumble is about beggers, spammers and those who use FT as a flirting/dating site, in the rudest way possible. |

I'm Cajun. We need some Cajun spice here.

I agree with the first post my facebook is on UK English therefor the word should enter on my farmtown as plough. After all the language is English!
plow followed by plzzzz ( both an abortion of the language ) is a major irritant in this game. |

I am a Kiwi but educated in an English school and yes the misuse of the language and spelling IS a major irritant I would rather crash every hour, and believe me I do, than see the English language mangled. Each to his own eh? I selected UK English in the hopes of correct English and get American.Go figure that annoys me.Perhaps because I teach English but I can also add faster than the geek with the calculator in the local shops and I also know how to use an apostrophe.Call me old fashioned! We were taught these things were important kind of like manners but the people on FT and obviously some on the forum are prepared to forgo all of these.
Sorry did I interrupt your graffitti time? perhaps you might want to make some cold calls during other people's dinner whilst you are at it. |
